Lighting Columns
Incorporation of lighting columns and traffic information signs within concrete barrier is a subject that is frequently raised by designers and principle contractors alike. Guidance from Highways Agency is not yet included within NPSBS or IRRRS but lighting columns and traffic information signs have successfully been incorporated within many kilometres of concrete barrier along the median of many major roads including M25 London Orbital and the M1.
This website sets out only to provide details of installations successfully constructed in the past - it does not purport to provide guidelines on behalf of industry or the Highways Agency and we strongly recommend that any proposals are submitted to either Highways Agency, Scottish Office or Welsh Assembly Road Restraint departments for comment.
A number of different options have been constructed and the choice would be dependent on the individual highways scheme.
