A1 Blyth to Peterborough Grade Separated Junctions

IMageWorks continue throughout 2008 along the A1 trunk road between Blyth on the South Yorkshire / Nottinghamshire border and Peterborough.

The Highways Agency is at Blyth, Apleyhead, Markham Moor, Gonerby Moor, Colsterworth and Carpenters Lodge replacing single level roundabouts with grade separated junctions to reduce congestion, queuing, delays and to improve a poor safety record

The works feature insitu concrete surface water channels and Extrudakerb commenced construction at the Blyth site in 2007.

IMageExtrudakerb worked closely with main contractor Interserve and their Design team to reduce costs by developing a channel that provides the same performance but with a reduced cross sectional area. The channel is some 2 metres wide and so any reduction in thickness yielded significant savings.

Available traffic management tested Extrudakerb's workshop as unusual paver configurations were required with concrete feed from the adjacent carriageway via a diagonally mounted conveyor.

Works include the hand laying of channel outfall aprons.

Concrete is being supplied to the works by Lafarge Readymix and Tarmac according to the geographical location of each site.

Productivity has been as high as 180m3 per shift.
